it is to allow air to enter the tank to replace the space that the gas was taking up.
the vent in your fuel tank is not working properly
Clogged fuel tank vent. As the fuel is removed air must enter the tank or it will collapse. Can be nothing more than a defective fuel cap.
I assume you are referring to the cap on the fuel tank. The cap has a vent hole so the tank will not create a vaccum as it delivers duel to the engine. If the tank is half-full or more, vibration caused by using the implement will casue the fuel to "splash" within the fuel tank and also "splash" out trhough the vent hole. Check the inside of the fuel cap to see if the diaphragm is worn or missing and replace the cap if necessary.
Fuel tank cap vent is plugged.
Yes, If your pulling a vacuum in the fuel tank, the fuel pump cannot deliver fuel to the engine and will stall. Check the fuel tank vent hose and fitting, a common problem is wax build up in the fuel tank vent screen. If you replace the fitting, remember it is a requirement to have the screen in the fuel tank vent. Quick test is to run the boat until it stalls and remove the fill cap, listen for vacuum release.
They don't all have vent caps.
Drain all fuel from the tank (Or as much as possible) You will need to disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the Gas Cap. Disconnect the fuel tank fill hose, and the vent hose from the fill neck diconnect the fuel pump module wiring harness and and anything securing the harness to the fuel hoses Disconnect the fuel tank vent hose from the vent tube Disconnect fuel supply hose at the pump Remove your skid plate. Remove tank shield support the fuel tank with a jack Remove the tank support strap nuts and separate the straps away from the tank Lower the jack and tank
Sounds as if you have a blockage in the fuel tank vent. Leave the filler cap off and drive around. If all is ok then you have a blocked vent causing a vacuum in the tank
try checking the fuel tank vent, or the fuel cap to make sure the tank is not sucking in..........is there a hiss when you remove the fuel cap?
There should be a vent along side the filler pipe which could be plugged. It vents only when the cap is off of the tank.
Be sure the fuel tank cap vent is clear. Be sure all fuel filters are clean, including the small screen at the fuel inlet in the carburetor.
problem with the venting try it with the gas cap off. if that does`nt work, you may need to replace the fuel filter. it`s possible that the vent hole in the gas cap is blocked. this would create a vacuum in the tank and prevent the fuel pump from pumping the fuel out.
