Because his assasination at Sarajevo led to WWI.

AnswerThat is why WWI started but he's asking why Franz Ferdinand was OS important...

Franz Ferdinand was so important because he was the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne. When he was killed by Gavrilo Principe, Austria-Hungary declared war against Serbia. The war turned so big because the countries allied with Austria-Hungary (the Triple Alliance) also went into war against Serbia. Countries also allied with Serbia (the Entente Powers) had to get involved too. The war grew bigger because then comprimises were made to ensure more men. Like the British that joined the war, had the Indian Armies on their side because the Indians thought they'd get self-governship and Independence because they, at the time, were being ruled by and governed by the British.

Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary in 1914. He and his wife Sophie were murdered by Gavrilo Princep (of the Black Hand gang), which wanted Bosnia to become part of Greater Serbia.

Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were leaders of Austria. After leaving a meeting they were ambushed and assassinated. This led to the beginning of WWI.

Archduke Ferdinand was known for being assassinated it Serbia. The Archduke was murdered by several Syrians, called the Black Hand. The murder sparked tension in Austria-Hungary, where the Archduke was from. The Austria-Hungarians demanded that Serbia allow them to investigate the murder, but Serbia refused. The assassin was a Serbian terrorist, and Ferdinand was an Austria-Hungarian.

The Austria-Hungary government wanted Serbia to turn the assassin over to them, but Serbia refused. This led to Serbia and Austria-Hungary going to war, which caused Russia to support Serbia, and Germany to support Austria-Hungary.

From there, it only expanded, leading to what we now know as "World War I".
