safety starting switch
Yes, you can be anything you want to be.Yes. You can be anything you want to be, including a cougar.
THe transmission selector is worn, so the need to start it in the neutral position, which still has a workable contact switch, while the park position is worn out. like the other guy said, also you might have to adjust your shift linkage
I would not want an 88 cougar. To old
Need to replace the neutral safety switch, or may just need adjusted.
no, a puma is a pure cougar. They want everybody to call cougars pumas now. Actually puma is the German word for cougar!
You want the car to start in gear? Are you nuts?
i would check the cranking circuit, starter, starter relay, ignition switch, neutral safety switch.
If you cannot start it there is no choice. You have to use a tow truck. Because the transmission will not allow you to switch to neutral without starting the car. If you can start the car you can shift to neutral ask one of your friends with a tow rope in the trunk to tow your car where you want to.
You might want to check your park-neutral safety switch, if it is not engaged the starter will not run.
Either your gears are not locking at the start or you are in park or neutral or emergency brake on.
There not on it. They are. Check the Wikipedia article for Florida Panther. They are a type of "cougar" or "mountain lion" or "panther" or "catamount" or whatever you want to call them. There are several other subspecies of cougar on that list as well.
The purpose of that switch is to prevent the engine being started while in gear - when the switch is operating correctly, the engine will only start while in the park or neutral settings. You would not want your vehicle to lunge forward while the engine is turning over. With a manual transmission you should be able start the engine in any gear as long as the clutch pedal is fully engaged.
