If you mean today ,we are in a recession and many US firms set up in Republic of Ireland during the 80's and 90's. The Irish adopted the Euro currency and have been hit by a high exchange rate. Many US firms have pulled out .

People have lots of different reasons to leave, or to enter, Ireland or any other location. There was an earlier historical time, however, when there was one particular reason for people to leave Ireland, during the potato famine, when many people left because there wasn't enough food for them. But that was a long time ago. Now, most people who leave Ireland do so because they are looking for career, educational, or romantic opportunities elsewhere.
