I would check front crankshaft seal or timing cover gasket. The Crank pulley might be "throwing" oil on to the belts and Alternator.
I would connect the L lead to the dash light for alternator fault and from there to the ignition switch and the S lead directly to the alternator output connection. If there is no light, use a 35-300 Ohm resistor between the L lead and the ignition switch.
a defective starter switch
alternator is bypassing ignition switch, check wireing
plenty of things could be a starter, alternator, ignition switch, bad spark...
If you drive through a water puddle, water can get on the belts-antifreeze leaking, oil leaking, maybe a bad alternator /idler bearing, and sometimes a glazed/worn out belt.
If the battey is dead it won't charge. But it sounds like the alternator is bad. If you're sure tha battery is good then it has to be alternator, wiring, connectors or switch.
Starter? Wiring? Neutral safety switch?
I would expect if it is a domestic vehicle it would show either a A0331 or A0341 code, and if it is a imported vehicle it would show code A1679 and either code A0519 or A0520. Any of these codes will help you track down if it is the stereo itself or if it is the wiring. If none of these codes are there, then the most likely problem is the audio intereference disrupter switch, either the switch has gone bad or it is taking correct readings of the alternator interference and the alternator needs to be replaced, usually unless the alternator is not keeping the vehicle running it is just the switch.
check the wiring change the starter relay and clean ignition switch with electicial cleaner.
Hey Paul==a bad connection will causi it to smoke or something drawing excessive curent but it should blow a fuse before it smokes. I would think it is a bad connection in the switch itself, NOT an alternator. GoodluckJoe
If it were the ignition switch, the vehicle would not start even with a jump. The battery is either not holding a charge or the alternator is not providing the charge to the battery. You can have the battery and the alternator checked (usually free of charge) at an auto parts store,
If it is a gas golf cart it has an alternator and if it is electric you have no need for an alternator. An alternator would require more power to turn that it would return to the batteries. So, you would get less distance out of the cart with an alternator installed. That is why electric carts do not come equipped with an alternator.
