The 1992 Cavalier is most likely...Fuel injected. 1: You may have an electric fuel pump that is not putting out enough pressure. It Idles..but won't run as you give it gas...becaue it supposed to get more fuel at that exact moment..and it does not have enough pressure, and fuel to accelerate. There is a fuel rail with a pressure nipple , like a bike tube valve sticking out. The rail is a tube along the valve cover near the air intake to the engine. It is on top and has the injectors under it. It is all hooked to the Intake manifold.(Do the following OUTSIDE, Not in the garage. DO NOT SMOKE>) Unscrew the cap turn on the key , like you are going to start the car, but don't crank it. The fuel pump should humm for a moment or two to presure up. When you hear it stop running and humming. Gently push the center pin in the valve down, like you would to let air out of a tire stem. It should spray gas with a sharp, firm hiss of spray. If it doesn't spray with a quick firm spray...get it checked at a repair shop. Fuel injection Pumps are almost always inside the gas tank. You really need to it right. Not just the pump changeout...but getting it back in the tank and sealed correctly. 2: You have a vacume line off...and it is causing the car to stall the moment you give it gas. ( common Problem) Start Car..with hood up, do you hear a leak, it sounds like you are sucking hard thru a straw. Did you do something recently under the Hood ? Look in that area. Is there a hose off? 3: I once found the base near the EGR valve (Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve) leaking...and it will not run smoothly with a vacume leak. Is it smooth at idle? 4: Is the Check Engine light ON? If so you may just need to get a local shop to hookup, and check the computer for an error code. (Very Common on All Older Fuel injected cars) My Best Suggestion to all of us who Own COMPUTER / FUEL INJECTED cars: Let a reputable shop look at it...The REAL TRUTH is that there are often eight (8) electric sensors that read all at once, what your engine is doing when it is running. ANY ONE..that is not reading correctly can cause the system to run rough, or not at all. You can not afford to just start changing out sensors. (you would only be guessing at a Cause) Paying the fee to have it diagnosed...pin points the problem Quick...They will tell you what it is...You can buy and change that part if you wish, on your own. It only cost you the Checkout Fee. Often they have charged me less than I would have spent on my own. The vehicle ran better...because it was right. I once had an oxygen sensor (part $ 24) that was reading incorrectly and it caused the fuel mixture to be rich. The car idled with a little shake, and drove ok, everywhere I went. It got really bad gas mileage...and by the time I had it diagnosed...I could have saved 3 times as much in gas.
it probably doesnt like you amd wanted to drive off
front wheel drive
no , it's front wheel drive
Yes , it's front wheel drive
No sir, it is front wheel drive.
drive slower
Front
No
Front wheel drive.
check the fuses.
no cavaliers are front wheel drive and s10 is rear wheel drive tranny wont mount in right position (i own both a 96 s10 and a 97 cavalier)
no it is not. the bolt pattern on the back of the engine where the transmission bolts up is different. the cavalier is front wheel drive, the s-10 is rear wheel drive
