It is highly unlikely. There has been martial law imposed in the US, in selected areas during emergencies, such as New Orleans during and after Hurricane Katrina. A national emergency encompassing the entire country, requiring martial law everywhere, would be extremely unprecedented and unlikely.

Anarchy and/or martial law is not a probability in the United States. The USA has a stable government at the federal, US state and local levels. There are no major issues that call for martial law within the nation. Anarchy would simply be impossible in a developed country such as the USA. The USA's is in a recession, however, as with all recessions most economists believe the economy will recover from this one. The end of this recession will show economic indicators such as unemployment to return to a 5% normality. Consumer confidence will improve & the decline in housing will slowly return to its pre-recession rates. Although the USA's deficit is extremely high, growth in the economy will produce sources of new revenue to reduce this. Interest rates will rise, however, the rates will still remain relatively low so as not to impede growth. The stock markets are an indicator of future growth and despite predictions of gloom and doom, this is not reflected in markets. The markets, even in a Bear market remain stable places to trade stocks.

What are the types of martial law?

1. Full Martial Law is characterized by the presence of full combat ready troops in the streets of our city and towns. 2. Martial Law Jurisdiction. This form of Martial Law is what governs our service personnel. They are under the jurisdiction of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Under the UCMJ your rights are a privilege granted by the UCMJ and not protected by an appeal to the provisions of the Constitution for the united States. 3. Martial Law Rule. This aspect of Martial Law puts the civilian population under the exclusive direction of the Congress. Does anyone question the reason Congress uses the word "war" when singling out a perceived social ill. There are so many other adjectives that can be used why use the word war. Does not a declared war place the population under Martial Law? Does the declaration of war not put the entire country in a combat zone? Think about it.
