All of the Marks used an IRS 8.8" setup. So, your ring & pinion is 88.

How do you determine the rear axle ratio 2003 F-150?

check for the data tag on the rear diffrental cover if not there you can jack up the truck make a mark on the pinion flange and one on the axle flange, lugnut or tire what ever will work for a refrence. turn pinion one turn while counting number of turns on axle end. the axle end number will be the gear ratio like 2.73 or 3.55 and so on. you can also look at the vin tag and use a brake down of the vin to determine the ratio

How do you change the seal on the rear-end that the drive shaft goes into on a 92 Tacoma 4x4?

Remove the drive shaft. Mark the relationship of the pinion nut to the pinion gear. This is necessary to maintain pinion bearing preload. Remove the nut. Remove the flange. Pry out and replace the seal. Reinstall in reverse order being sure realign the marks that were previously made. Check gear oil level and add as necessary.

Gear ratios for a1960 Chevy 1 ton truck?

A good way to get the final drive ratio with the tires you have on the vehicle is to raise the rear tires off the ground. Put the vehicle in neutral, mark the drive shaft, then while rotating the tire one full revolution count how many revolutions the drive shaft makes. that would be the final drive ratio. drive shaft revolutions over 1 so three and one third revs of the drive shaft to one rev of the tire would be 3.33/1 or 3.33 gear ratio. note if tires are larger than stock or smaller than stock it will change the actual drive ratio. Or you could remove the differential cover and count the teeth on the ring gear and the teeth on the pinion gear then divide the ring gear number's (larger number) by the pinion teeth number (less teeth) to find out the exact gear ratio. I would think it will be somewhere between 3.08 to 4.56

How to id rear end gear ratio in 88 Chevy pickup?

look for an id tag on the axle. if it doesn't have one take the cover off the differential and count the teath on the ring and pinion gears(big circle and small gear biting into it) then use simple division ex. 16 on the pinion and 44 on the ring equals 4.11 NEW ANSWER; He's right about counting teeth on gears, But you need to divide the # of teeth on pinion gear into the # of teeth on ring gear, and round off # That will be your gear ratio for sure. A ring gear of 40 and a pinion gear of 13 is a 3.08 (40/13=3.0769...) You can waste your time taking the dif cover off or you can do it the old fashion way. The easy way to figure it out is to jack the vehicle up off the ground put the trany in neutral and rotate the tire one full revolution and while doing so count how many revolutions the drive shaft turns. For example if you have a 4.11 rear gear ratio the drive shaft will spin 4.11 times for every single tire rotation. It is a good idea to mark the back side of the tire where it is closest to the ground with some masking tape. That way you can see when you have made one full revolution as well as putting a mark on the drive shaft and axle housing. Not only is this easier it is alot cheaper than buying new diff lube and a gasket for the axle housing.

What is a fixed cost ratio?

Here's an example - If a company knows that a product costs a certain amount (wholesale) that's a fixed cost. Now, they usually mark up that price three times before they sell it to you. Their fixed cost ratio is 1/3. If they mark it up five times the cost, their ratio is 1/5.

How do you change the pinion gears in a gm suburban?

To change the pinion gear in a differential you must first open the differential, drain the gear oil and inspect the gears and bearings. Pinion gears and ring gears are usually done as a matched set so you should plan on replacing both. Remove the axle shafts and then mark the carrier bearing caps so they can be replaced in exactly the same location and direction that they came off. remove the caps and then pull the carrier out. Measure the pinion to axle centerline distance so that you can get the new pinion in the same spot. Remove the yoke retainer nut and the driveshaft yoke and then remove the pinion from the differential housing. You should be using new bearings and races so remove the old races from the differential housing and the old bearing from the Pinion gear. The shims from the old gear should be a good starting place to set up your new pinion depth. Test fit the new pinion to see if the pinion depth is right. Install pinion bearing races, bearings and new seal. Install new ring gear and set the gear lash You may have to shim the carrier or change the pinion depth to get the right gear lash. This process usually requires expert knowledge and specialized tools and you may want to consult a qualified mechanic to do the job. There are many more detailed descriptions on the net.
