∙ 14y agoFrom all my research and working through getting a correct diagnosis for my son, this is a definite YES.
Gluten intolerance (wheat/barley/rye/semolina) can cause major stomach issues. After five years of terrible stomach pains and major digestive issues, our son was finally diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Celiac Disease is NOT a wheat/gluten allergy. It is an auto-immune disease that can cause multiple other issues when a person ingests gluten.
Many people with a gluten intolerance or full blown Celiac Disease spend years being diagnosed with diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, and the list goes on and on.
The first step in finding out if you are gluten intolerant is getting a blood test called a ttg. This can be requested and administered easily. There are false negatives to this test as well as false positives. There are additional steps after the ttg but it's a start.
