Laptops range from £300 upwards depending on the processor
Entry level laptops are usually celeron processors, they work fine when bought new but after installing other software they tend to slow down
Duel core processors are a better buy, they are faster than celerons and tend to handle extra software better they are also better for gaming
memory is also very important basic laptops come with 512k memory but can be upgraded,you would be better buying one with 1-2 GiG of memory
harddisk size is not really important as most laptops come with 40 Gig plus and you will find the more software you put on the slower the laptop will get, a better option is to buy an external usb harddisk and store all your photographs and music etc.. on it.
the spec i would be looking for would be
duel core
2 Gig memory
80 Gig Harddisk
17" display
wireless
the price should be around £500

No, it doesn't. So what if you want to sit on his lap? It's not like you were going to make out with him, but if you know someone likes that guy then don't do it. I'm not sure if it does make you look like a skank but its highly unlikely.
