It is best to check your lease/finance agreement. Used cars depreciate quickly, so it is likely your car is worth less than what you owe.
An example is: If you were to return your car when it is worth less than what you owe, you would be essentially defaulting on the remaining of your total. If you decide to turn it back in and owe more than what the car is worth, you can pay off the total of the car so you don't default.
Sometimes in private sales you can sell your car for more than what a dealership considers the worth of the car. If you could sell it for what is remaining on your loan, you could use that money to pay off your loan to the dealership and release the car to the new owner.

∙ 6y agoNo. Although you can ask the dealer, your business with the dealer is completed. You are responsible for paying the loan company.
There is no return period unless the dealer has such a voluntary, user friendly policy. Most car sales are final. You need to read your contract and know the dealer's policies before signing anything.

Too late, unless it's still covered under warranty from the dealership. It would be hard to prove that it was the dealer's fault, or that they willingly sold you a car with a bumm engine.

Its done every day of the year. No. Even if the dealership would let you,(never happen)it is still your responsibility. Apparently the lender feels they can collect the debt by other means. Secured lenders have the option of negotiation or collection of the debt in full. Bankruptcy does not relieve you of secured debt, unless it is agreed upon by the lender.

The accounts and contracts held by the dealership will be acquired by the creditors of the dealership. Any debts owed to the dealership will then be owed to the new holders of those contracts. Typically, those creditors will turn them over or sell them to a consumer finance company that specializes in servicing consumer loans. Bottom line: you still owe the money, you just owe it to someone else, now.

Sometimes if the dealership specializes in new and certified preowned vehicles, the vehicle may just be too old to certify or just in need too many repairs to sell.

I would just ask him out straight where you stand that way you get a straight answer and no one will hopefully get hurt. if you just put a starter on you shouldn't have any problems cause i just had the same thing happen to me i thought it was my battery so i brought a new one and it still would not start so then i had a new starter put on and i have no more problems except i have to get the codes for my radio to start back to working and the dealership want at least 50 dollars and up i hope this answer your question
