Who2 Biography: Omarion, Singer

  • Born: 12 November 1984
  • Birthplace: Los Angeles, California
  • Best Known As: R&B crooner of the 2005 album O

Name at birth: Omari Grandberry

Omarion's debut solo album, O, zoomed to #1 on the Billboard charts in its first week of release in 2005. He'd been on the charts before -- as the lead singer of the soulful boy band B2K. That band broke up late in 2003, and just over a year later Omarion returned with O. As a solo crooner, Omarion proved to be a buffed-up loverboy of the Usher school; tunes on O included "I Wish," "Growing Pains" and "Never Gonna Let You Go" (a duet with Big Boi of Outkast). Omarion also dabbled in acting with roles in the 2004 movies You Got Served, Fat Albert and Feel the Noise (2007, produced by Jennifer Lopez). His autobiography, also titled O, was published in 2005, and his second musical release, 21 (2007) debuted at no. 1 and included the hits "Entourage" and "Ice Box." Omarion teamed with Bow Wow for the 2007 release Face Off, then began work on a third solo album for 2009.

Omarion's fellow singers in B2K were Raz-B, Lil Fizz and J-Boog.

In December 2006, Omarion released his second album, 21, named for his age at the time of recording. "Entourage"(produced by Eric Hudson) was the first single released; the video featured former B2K bandmate Lil' Fizz. The second single from 21, "Ice Box", produced by Timbaland, gained significant radio airplay and peaked at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The video features Solange Knowles. An official remix featured Usher and a DJ White Owl mix featuring Usher & Fabolous.

In December 2007, Omarion released his third project, a collaborative effort alongside rapper Bow Wow, entitled Face Off. Producer Jermaine Dupri initially suggested the collaboration, which offered an album and a two-part documentary entitled "The Road To Platinum". This was a BET special following the recording and promotion of the project. The first single released was written by The-Dream, called "Girlfriend". The second single sampled LL Cool J's "Going Back To Cali" and was entitled "Hey Baby". Face Off entered the official Billboard 200 album chart at number twelve, was the number one rap album in the U.S. and number two R&B album.

He also released a solo autobiography book titled "O" in 2004. It was released on behalf of MTV.

Recently, he has been signed to Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment.[1][2] [3]
