04 dodge neon engine makes ticking noise when cold?
You might want to look into the piston slap issues of aluminum pistons like those in the neon. Also, be aware of the fact that rings can not only get sticky but have a buildup occur on them, this can also cause an increase in oil consumption. You can read more on issue like this if you search on products like rislone, a cleaner product to clean off and free up sticky rings. As with most things, you could have a combination of factors but these issues could be worth knowing about, might even be your fix. Best of luck - A 2000 Neon owner

Drive the car 1,000 miles and change the oil again. Add another can of… Read More
1994 Plymouth voyager makes a ticking noise from the time it starts until you turn it off What is the problem and how can you fix it?
The ticking noise could be worn out rocker arms under valve covers. Switch to heavier weight oil if ticking noise subsides that could be your problem. This is usually a sign of a high mileage engine. Worst case scenario would be weak oil pump not getting oil to top of heads. Read More

No! ticking noise is usually lifter noise. your engine is fine.(to a point) try changing your oil put in a thicker oil to prevent metal to metal contact. go for a 15/40 20/50. let it run for a while(few miles), if it doesn't stop buy an additive called "engine lucas", that will dilute your oil just enough to allow it to lubricate your lifters. also when your oil level drops or your oil becomes dirty… Read More
Hi i have a subaru legacy 1996. It has startd making a ticking noise when it starts in the morning.IT eventually fades as the engine warms up.But i have been told i may need a new engine Help?
Ticking is not that that big of a deal to require a new engine. If your engine is knocking, it is a big deal. Make sure your car is ticking first. Ticking is usually caused by the valvetrain of the engine when it is not properly lubricated. As the engine increases oil pressure the oil makes its way into the valvetrain and the sound should go away. If it goes away when the engine is… Read More

Well if its sort of like a scratchy noise coming from the engine you might want to get your transmission checked out Read More
If it is coming from the engine, it is more than likely the hydraulic valve lifters. They sometimes go bad and don't hold oil in them and need to get oil into them to work. When they get older they don't hold the oil, as well and they will make this noise too. If it is a constant ticking that speeds up with the engine speed, you know that is most likely what it is. Why would a 1997 Dodge Caravan engine make a tapping-ticking noise that went away after warming up but now is constant and seems to come from the top of the engine?
The 3.0L engine had a problem with the lifters that would cause the top end to tick. There is a TSB i believe on how to fix it. If the ticking is coming from the bottom of the engine (sometimes hard to tell) then you might have a Con-Rod knock that starting to show. Eitherway take it to a mechanic for diagnoses. Read More

The check engine light is on in your 1998 Ford Explorer there is a faint ticking and noise coming from the engine what is it The oil and transmission fluid was just changed before the light came on?
The check engine light is not related to the oil or the transmission fluid systems. It is related to fuel control, computer, emmissions control systems. The faint ticking you hear may just be the normal noise coming from the fuel injectors. All fuel injectors make some kind of ticking noise while they operate. I would say, if the check engine light has anything to do with the services performed, it would almost have to be… Read More
