There is a brake light switch that is probably bad. It will be mounted under the dash and will touch the "arm" of the brake. There will be a couple of wires running to it. These are inexpensive and easy to replace. They are also adjustable....so you might luck out and find that it is out of adjustment.
On the 1979 B200 Sportsman V8 if the brake pedal makes all signal lights come on and hazards and flashers do not work on their own, it could be the flasher, but the culprit could also be a burned out bulb or a short in the wiring.

A malfunctioning brake light and flasher relay switch will cause the brake lights and flashers to stop working. The relay switch can be found below the dashboard on the drivers side of the passenger compartment.
