YOU MIGHT TRY INSPECTING AND CLEANING THE IDLE-AIR CONTROL SOLENOID (IAC). THIS ELECTRIC SOLENOID IS LOCATED ON THE THROTTLE BODY SOMEWHERE, AND IS MOUNTED BY PLUNGER INTO AN ORIFACE. ONCE YOU REMOVE THE IAC, CLEAN THE COMPLETE ORIFACE, THROTTLE BODY, AND PLUNGER OF ALL CARBON AND DEBRIS. THROTTLE BODY SPRAY CLEANER-NOT CARB CLEANER-SHOULD BE USED TO DISSOLVE THE DEPOSITS. AUTO STORES ALSO HAVE THIS PRODUCT CALLED "GUARANTEED TO PASS" ,WHICH SUPPOSEDLY CLEANS THE FUEL SYSTEM ENOUGH TO A POINT OF PASSING AN EMISSIONS TEST. IVE NEVER TRIED IT, BUT YOU SUPPOSEDLY WOULD GET YOUR MONEY BACK IF IT DIDN'T WORK. NEVERTHELESS, SOME SORT OF TOP-END CLEANING OF THE FUEL/AIR COMPONENTS IS RECOMMENDED.....GOOD LUCK!..BB

Sounds to me like you need to replace the spark plugs, spark plug wires and rotor. If the condition still persists, replace the distributor cap.
The RX8 has 4 spark plugs or two plugs per rotor. Each rotor has a leading and a trailing plug, the trailing fires a little bit after the leading plug.

It is feeling silly and my other answer is it is behaving badly
The gap on the plugs might not be gapped properly.
