1988 Chevy blazer sometimes refuses to accelerate or if going over 50 it will suddenly slow down to a stop even with my foot on the gas and there is also sometimes bad fumes.?

Your description indicates a problem with the fuel delivery system, first check the fuel filter it may be clogging, also the fuel pump may be getting weak and not able to deliver adequite fuel pressure during high demand.
