This could be a cracked flex plate (common on this vehicle). Also common if it is a k1500 the centering main bearingon the 350 vortex goes bad due to the oil filter being sideways on the motor. If you put sea30 motor oil on your next oil change and it goes away it's your bearing.
With out hearing it, It is hard to say whats wrong. But the most common noise like that would probley be a ROD knocking. Time for engine overhaul.
It's according to where the noise is coming from if it's the rods knocking due to low oil it will get faster because they move up and down and move faster when the motor gets faster.
many many things, Loose lug nuts which lets wheel make knocking noise. Engine will make a knocking noise if it is really low on oil. Some timing belts make a knocking, slapping noise just before they break. These are just a few examples . Have someone ride in car with you as you duplcate the noise and see if they can determine which part of the vehicle it is coming from.
if youre getting alot of white smoke from your tailpipe and if you hear a knocking noise coming from the top end of the motor could either be a rocker arm or a valve if it is knocking and the valve is bad the knocking will speed up as you accelerate valve are cheap and easy to replace anymore questions email me at utcbass_man@yahoo.com
My 99 sonoma had a knock and it was a wrist pin in the engine, my 99 jimmy fuel injection leaked gas in the engine oil and caused the main bearings to fail because of lack of proper lubrication.

if it sounds like the knocking is coming from the bottom of the engine i would bet it was the rods or rod bearings may be worn. if the knocking is on the top ,then i would have the lifters and or the rocker arms checked.
