I HAD A 1998 BRONCO II THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH I HAD INSTALLED A NEW 1000 AMP DELCO BATTERY. I DISCONNECTED THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. WITH EVERYTHING OFF INCLUDING THE +12 VOLT LEADS TO MY RADIO DISCONNECTED, A VOLTMETER HOOKED BETWEEN THE NEGATIVE CABLE AND NEGATIVE BATTERY READ 12 VOLTS. THE DIODES IN THE ALERNATOR WERE SHORTED OUT. I WENT TO AUTOZONE AND HAD THEM CHECK THE ALTERNATOR. IT CHECKED BAD. I BOUGHT A NEW LIFETIME WARRANTY ALTERNATOR. WITHIN ONE YEAR THE NEW ALTERNATOR DID THE SAME THING. I HAD SOLDERED IN THE NEW WIRING HARNESS WITH PLUG, SO WIRING WAS NOT THE PROBLEM. IT TURNS OUT THAT THE NEW ALTERNATOR HAD A SHORT LIFE. AFTER THAT THE BRONCO II GOT BETTER GAS MILEAGE, AND STARTED INSTANTLY. ALSO WITH THE NEW SECOND ALTERNATOR INSTALLED THERE WAS ZERO VOLTS BETWEEN BATTERY NEGATIVE AND NEGATIVE CABLE. I AM 100% SURE THIS WILL FIX YOUR PROBLEM. P.S. DO NOT FORGET TO USE GOOD HEAT SHRINK TUBING AND ROSIN CORE SOLDER.
run it and then disconnect the negative wire from the battery if alternator dies its bad.
Battery light usually means alternator not charging. Most common solutions would be be a bad alternator, bad connection, or loose alternator belt. If the battery and alt test ok than check the connections to the alternator and battery.
wires are crossed or you have a short in the wiring from the alternator to the battery.
Yes, if the negetive battery cable is not connected propperly to the battery, it will ruin the alternator and probably kill your car.
No, the alternator will not charge the battery with the negative terminal loose.
Positively positive
If alternator and battery test fine- then you may have a bad fusable link not allowing the alternator to charge the battery
Get a new starter...lol.
Front of engine. It's belt driven and has a lead to the battery so that should help you.
battery and or alternator are shot, check alternator by starting the car, and removing either the positive or negative battery cable,,, if the vehicle continues to run the alternator is good.
Remove the bolt retaining the heater hose clamp to the alternator adjusting bracketRemove the bolt retaining the negative battery cable to the alternator adjusting bracketif equipped if not remove the negative battery cableDisconnect the cable from the positive battery cableDisconnect the two electrical connectors from the rear of the alternatorRemove the bolt retaining the alternator to the adjusting bracketRemove the alternator pivot bolt and remove the alternator from the car
To test the alternator if funds are low, let the motor idle and remove the negative battery cable, if the motor dies its probably the alternator.
