1998 Dodge Avenger tail lights stay on with no key in ignition When battery cable is connected the tail lights are on.?

On the upper portion of the brake pedal there is an extension plate that contains a small plastic grommet that disengages the brake light button under the drivers dash. If your brake lights stay on when the battery is hooked up, keys out of the ignition, this grommet is missing or damaged.
You can place a screw into this grommet hole to get you to a local automotive store for a replacement one.
