well it does not have marks.you use a cam aline tool .the cams have slots in the ends of the cams.the tool looks like a straight edge 6inch long flat of metal.you stick the tool in the slots of the cams .after you set your crank to top dead center.to get this extact on zero you must screw a timing peg in the crank.the hole of it is behind the exhaust manold.which you will have to remove to get to the peg hole.a bolt is screwed in block in the front of the engine.you will have to remove the bolt.then screw the peg in the hole after you set the stroke on zero.you then set the cams with the cam aline tool i was talking about .its ready to put your time belt etc on.after you are done with all of this. remove the peg and cam tool and put the bolt back in the block.etc.i have done this engine before myself.
there are no timing marks on the cam shaft pullys you have to remove the rocker cover and fit a locking tool to the rear of the cams the crank has a mark on the fan belt pully to the cover at about 5 oclock
Yes! Cambelt can be replaced but you will need to get a ZETEC timing kit with your new timing belt..Ford no longer provides timing marks on the zetec engine so without this kit dont attempt it. You can pick this kit up directly off the internet for around 12 to 14-quid..dont Buy one from garage or parts shop as they will sting you for 40-70 quid!..Trust me on this, as i have already been through it..When you get the kit you will know how lock the CAMS and get the right TDC..Hope this little bit of info helps.
how do you set the timing on a 1.25 ford fiesta zetec s engine ?
Unless you have had the timing belt off or it has broken the timing should still be correct. The way you set the timing is by taking the timing belt off and lining up the timing marks and put the belt back on. I added a link to a text how-to for setting the timing on the Zetec engine. -ZX2Fast
Yes it does have a timing belt
depends on what year the zetec engine is 98-2000 are varible cam timing & have a slot at rear of both cams & crank is timed by removing a bolt on the exhaust side of block & replace it with a special longer pin that screws in its place to stop crank from turning. then you set vct by pointer on timing belt tensioner with in desired range it has lines on it. willie752@charter.net
