2000 VW Beetle and both low beam headlights have stopped working The high beams work and all other lights work. Why would both low beam lights stop working at the same time?

i have the same problem on a friends vehicle. strange problem. i am going to look towards ground or a relay. i thought it may be a fuse but there is one fuse for each the left and right low beams. will let you know if i come up with anything. not sure when i am going to look at it. maybe tommorrow. p.s it turned out being the connector to the switch that turns on the lights was not connected properly. make sure the connector is tightly connected to the switch.
