Assuming that you are pushing on the brake pedal ( it has a brake-shift interlock
where you have to push on the brake pedal to shift out of park ) it sounds like a
problem with the brake-shift interlock . Click on the link below , click on Owner Guides ,
the Owner Guide ( which includes the instructions on what to do if the gear selector
won't come out of the park position ) can be viewed online
i have a ford focus 1.8 petrol S reg. When i put it into reverse gear it jumps out what is the problem please ?
I believe they are swithable if the ranger had the 2.9 V-6. (same mounts)
shifter is broke. my ranger was the same way. take the shifter off , and the ear on the other end will be broke. simple to fix. jus find another shifter like i did.
Yes, you would most likely find it on the tail shaft housing on your transmition. That is towards the rear of the transmition near where the drive shaft enters the transmition. The sensor will have a 3 wire conector on it. It does not matter if it is a manual or automatic.
If it's an auto, you could just get an aftermarket cable shifter from a speed shop.
No, it won't. The original shifter knob from ford is a press on design where the hurst is a screw on design.
On your 1989 Ford Ranger : The vacuum modulator valve is on the passenger side of the A4LD automatic transmission ( it might be behind a heat shield )
I have a 1992 Ford ranger with a manual transmission. A while back, my truck's shifter knob just came loose. It's all plastic, and I think it was just held on by pressure. I don't know what type your truck's shifter knob would be, since I really haven't driven any newer rangers.
You will need to remove the boot and such to get to the base of the shifter. I have a 1990 and I had to remove 3 star bolts/screws on the base of the shifter. Once removed, the lever assembly pulled right out.
1999 ford ranger has reverse, 1st and 2nd no drive , reverse quits when it gets warm , can you help diagnose
The shifter linkage is loose or the drive gear is worn out.
your syncros might be worn or the shifter might need a new plasice ball on the end or the whole shifter needs rebuilt
