This is a common problem- the heater blend doors. These are motorized doors about the size of an index card that control whether hot or cold air comes from the vents. There may be two independent doors or both doors may operate together depending on whether you have dual zone temperature controls. They are located in the heating/air conditioning module, a long black plastic apparatus about the size of a Golf bag that contains the heater core, the air conditioning evaporator, the blower motor, the blend doors, and all the other parts to make hot or cold air and direct it to the needed location. Replacing the blend doors is a job for the experienced home mechanic. The proper job requires you remove the steering column and entire dashboard, drain both the coolant and air conditioning refrigerant, and remove large, heavy pieces from the car.
