2001 VW Beetle and the brake lights do not work. The fuses and the bulbs are all fine you just replaced the brake switch and the brake lights still do not work what else could it be?

a crappy car. my 99 beetle has the same problem. brake light switch new, bulbs and fuses new. brake lights just work whenever the heck they want. this is one of the many reasons my car has a for sale sign in the window. good luck.

most brake switches have a method to adjust the position of the switch. check to see. it it dose, make the adjustment, and continue adjusting until the problem is resolved. the other possiblity is that the mounting bracket for the switch was bent at some point. hope it helps. duboff

The turn signal switch overrides the brake light circuit while the turn signals are on. If the switch is damaged or worn out the brake lights won't work.
