It could be that the lock motors are not working, or that the connection in the wiring has been broken somewhere.

A mechanical problem is causing your Ford Explorer not to lock with the bottom when your start the car.
Drop your back seat and you should see two metal bars, put them together and add your lug wrench for a handle. Their is a hole at the back of your trunck when you lift the hatch, stick the bar in the hole and turn it to lower the tire.
All you need to do is take the jack long handle, and insert it through the small opening in the jamb where the back door is. (you must open back hatch door to see it). Start winding and the spare wheel will start dropping.
remove handbrake handle console, there is the cable with the nut at rear of handle. put down handle and screw down nut 'till the handle comes up 7 clicks.
