try disconnecting the main plug held down by a screw in the fuse box in the engine compartment, clean it and plug in again. Make sure that the screw is tight. This should bring everything back alive. Sometimes the plug may become loose and you will lose communication in the computer. This worked on mine and on my friend's.
can't improve answer but tried this on my 2001 ram 2500 and it also worked, thought i was going to have to replace my instrument cluster. this is a great resource.
The "bus" is the communication system for the computers on the truck. The above mentioned connecter is a common fail point. Any wire between the computers can also cause this problem.
