ANSWER:

The problems between Texas and Mexico would include:

A portion of land in Texas, was granted for 100 American families to settle a colony in 1820, and become loyal subjects of Spain. However, by 1835, Americans outnumbered Mexicans by ten to one. This was because "Texas fever" spread across the South, and after the 1830's, the province had gone from 100 settlers to 30,000 settlers.

Many settlers had brought their slaves with them to Texas. Periodic attempts by Mexico to abolish slavery in Texas was a problem.

Mexico had became alarmed at the large number of Americans in Texas and began to restrict settlement. Some land grants were canceled.

Shooting occasionally broke out between Mexican troops and American cowboys.

The Republic of Texas faced attack from Native American tribes and Mexico, though Texas and MExico signed a peace treaty in 1844.

Most Texans hoped that the U.S. would annex Texas, making it a state. The U.S. Congress also wanted to annex Texas. But then-President Andrew Jackson refused. He was concerned that admitting Texas as a slave state would upset the fragilie balance of free and slave states. The president also did not want to have a war with Mexico over Texas. (Jackson reckognized Texas as an independent nation later.) In 1845, under the presidency of J.K. Polk, Texas became a U.S. state.
