87 Chevy silverado gas gauge reads a quarter at full on both tanks falls as gas is used to empty checked ground and connections unpluged the sending wire at tank and gauge goes to full thank you?

my 86 did the same never would read more than 1/4 tank after lots of checking things i replaced the gauge and it worked perfect..
