This sounds like a fuel pump issue, an easy way to check this is to spray a flammable
liquid in to the intake manifold just in front of the throttle body, if the engine starts for a short time then dies it is not getting fuel.
A safer way to do this is to get a fuel pressure gauge and test the fuel pressure.
most newer vehicles require at least 55 PSI or more fuel pressure to start
It could possibly be the timing belt. Chevrolet recommends replacing it every 60,000 miles.
Nope, i can start my 720 without clutch engaged. Its a 1984 720 with the z24 motor if you were wondering
Try another battery. A lot of the time batteries just go dead and wont take a charge.
The awnser is......
If the engine turns over but will not start your battery cable is NOT the problem. Even if it stated after reattaching the cable. Something else was the problem. If the engine will not turn over then the cable might be your problem. If you took off the cable and then reattached it and then the engine turned over then your cable was not making a good connection with the battery terminal and by reattaching it you improved the connection.
There is more then likely loss of compression, resulting from a number of reasons, do a compression test.
Try the key in the trunk lock ...
I had a z24 2.8 the same thing found out it was the timing gear snapped or the coil's should be 3 of them . just one bad one will do it.
If your speedometer isn't working then that gear needs replaced before it'll shift
Kind of vague...!! What's it doing? Is it turning over? Was the check engine light on before you shut it off? Need more info.
Problem other then Fuel Pump
That is true on one of my 97 Chevy cavalier z24,but not with the other 2. (97 & 99) On mine, I just leave the key on for 15-20 mins. turn off key, then restart.
