Can transmission not down shifting cause stalling?

Maybe. If the trans is messed up enough it can drag the engine down. But this is very rare to the point where I would bet it isn't your problem

Our 2004 Avalon has a very jerky shifting action. When we bought it the RPMs were running high and that was fixed but the shifting is not smooth.?

is the car cold when you observe this? -> common problem, especially between 2nd and 3rd gear. Another thing i have observed is that if you accelerate with a lead foot or with a really light touch, they both produce a fairly smooth shifting. However, when you drive moderately, the shifting can be noticeable..and sometimes feel like being jerked.. running synthetic transmission like mobil 1 may helped a bit..

What would cause the trans to say its slipping when it is not on a 98 Pontiac transport?

Maybe I shouldn't be answering this one, because it is a little ambiguous for me, so I'll answer in a couple of ways. If you mean that you have installed it in a different vehicle then a 98, it could very well be slipping because it has a sensor that informs the computer as to what is happening with it. The trans shifting has to be relearned by the computer. This is just one more area of self presivation the dealerships use. They charge a fortune just to take the vehicle out on a relearn mission, which anyone can do if they have access to the information as to how to do it. Second since the trans shifting is controlled by the computer, and it's not getting that response back, the computer may be getting confused, and simply just calls the lack of response to mean that the trans is not doing what it is being told to do. Even though the computer is mostly in control, there is still a modulator valve ( like the old trans had ) that plays a part in the shifting, and or slipping.

Does a 1995 Buick Riviera transmission fit in any other car?

The 1995 Buick Riviera SC 3.8 uses a 4T60E transmission very similar to the other 3.8's of the era and will physically bolt up to other cars, though the gearing of the final drive in the supercharged Riviera is 3.29 fine pitch, where the others are most often a 3.06, 2.83 or 3.33 none of which are fine pitch ratios. This will cause problems with trans control modules. Hollander interchange lists the 1995 Riviera SC 4T60E non-interchangeable with any other applications.

Why would there be metal shavings in the transmission pan of a 1994 Pontiac Bonnieville with the 4T60E transaxle?

A small amount of shavings is normal. That is why there is a magnet inside the pan to collect the shavings. A large amount or large pieces of metal is not normal and will require a professional to diagnosis. It it has run good and has not had shifting problems, or strange noises, then it is most likely fine. I just rebuilt my son's 4T60E transmission for that very problem. I found two sources of the metal shavings: The teeth on the reverse reaction drum (stove pipe) and the spyders for the differential in the final drive carrier were in the process of shelling out. Chuck Check to see if there is a recall on your transmission.

Were is the RPMs cable located on the engen of a Chevy s10 pickup?

Chevy stopped using cable driven tachs to read rpms back in the very early sixties.

What would cause the car to sound like it's in a lower gear?

Transmission. If an Automatic trans and car sounds like it is always in '1st' gear (engine rpm very high, has a lot of torque when you press or release the gas pedal) the shift cable has the trans in 1st or low gear, or there is a problem within the transmission preventing it from shifting (low fluid level, bad solenoid on or in the trans, bad shifter assembly)

Chevy 4.3 vortec auto reverse is completely gone no warning signs or anything changed trans filter and fluid didnt help now rev's up very high when shifting into drive need help?

Your bands are gone, you need to replace them.

Where is the plug to change trasmisson fluid on a silhouette?

There isn't one.... If your changing the fluid due to the trans not shifting right or something like that, or if the fluid is pretty burned you might be money ahead to take it to a reputable shop and get it flushed. Transmissions anymore are not very durable.

What is wrong with your car if nothing works on the shifting lever including no reverse no park and no forward gears?

AnswerYour transmission is probably blown(broken). Probably get a new transmission or try to find a used one with very little miles.Your linkage to the trans may have become disengaged since you do not have the parking gear either. Check under the car to make sure it is shifting when you shift from inside the vehicle.

Your 99 Cougar shifts very hard with a jerk when you take your foot off the gas up shifting you can put the pedal to the floor it works fine but when it drops RPMs it jerks bad What could cause this?

it might be your rev limeter but im not there so im just guessing .are you putting it to the floor and letting up all the way

Do women ever get trans-rectal ultrasounds?

They used to get trans-vaginal ultrasounds. Never heard of trans-rectal ultrasound, but why not? Doctors are very inventive.
