Your autotransmission is probably a ZF box like the later Passats. I expect that Valovline Mercon V should be a suitable (or better) alternative. See the following site for a comprehensive run down on changing the fluid.

I would suggest that you check with ZF and/or Valvoline before you make the change. The autotransmission requires 9 Liters of fluid.
