the overdrive gear in those transmissions usually do fail, but u dont need a new tranny
The first and most often reason is that the OD is turned off.
There is no OD relay. All transmission shift functions are controled by the vehicle's PCM, using shift solenoids in the transmssion itself.
93 tranny is electronic if your speedo isn't working it won't shift into 3 or OD. Your speed sensor is more than likely the problem.
Have your OBD-2 scanned you can buy a scanner or if you can get it to move your local autozone will scan it for free Unless you are a transmission expert, take it to a transmission shop. There is a problem with the OD unit.

There's a button on the left side of the gearshift, under the T-handle. Push it once. There should be a little green light by the speedometer that indicates if you're in OD mode, or not.
The OD button means "Over Drive", off or on.

your transmission is having problems by the sound of it. go to a transmission shop.
sounds like shifting linkage needs to be adjusted
