97 ' silverado 4x4 your truck is getting about 9.5 miles to the gallon when its suppose to be getting something more like 15 miles to the gallon you dont know whats wrong?
Check the oxygen sensor. It may be so clogged that it can't get accurate readings to send to the computer.

Are you getting any codes or a check engien light? I would suspect an oxygen sensor malfunction sending the computer a signal to richen up the engine mixture. ==additional question== i have the same problem and was thinking that it might be running rich as well. could the O2 sensor be bad and NOT throw a code? i have no codes and aside from the lousy mileage the truck runs fine.
