99 Chevy Venture Has new temp cooling sensor Cooling fans wont come on unless you turn on the ac?

Just got back from the mechanic's shop on this one. He's telling me that my 01 Venture with the same problem needs a new coolant fan. Plain and simple. My right hand coolant fan is drawing 50 amps at start up ( that would be 20 more than the fuses would allow) so the system just won't turn them on. Some where around $300 for the entire fan assembly or $130 for a new fan motor not including labor should fix the problem so he says. Hope this helps a little.

The temperature sensor activate the fan. Unless it was hot wire by a back yard mechanic.
97 Saturn sl problem is that the car will run hot unless the ac is on engine cooling fan only runs with ac on the coolant temperature sensor was replaced but the problem persist what should be done?

unless there is something wrong with your car, the cooling fans are activated when a sensor in the cooling system detects that the coolant is too hot and that is when the fans turn on to help bring airflow to the radiator or just to circulate hot air away from the engine. if the coolant is still hot when your car turns on, then the fan will stay on as well. Also, if the AC is in the on position both the fans will run.

Most of the time this is a bad Thermal Switch.
Why would the cooling fan not come on a 91 sunbird replaced cooling fan motor and relay cooling fan now comes on when you jump across buut not with new or old relay in?
When you jump across it, you are shorting out the circuit - commonly used for testing components to see that they will turn on. When everything is connected the way it should be, there is also a thermostat which comes into play in the circuit - unless the thermostat gives the "command" for cooling, the fans will not start up.

There are two cooling fans in the front of your car. Check to see if they are both coming on when it is overheating. If only one is coming on it either has a bad fan motor,bad sensor that tells it when to come on or maybe only a bad connection at the sensor. You may need a mechanic to check it out unless you know about how electrical systems work relating to cooling fans
