What is an Aerated Septic System?

A septic tank lets out air when liquid comes in. Bacteria in the tank help breakdown the sewage into cleaner effluent which is released into the drainfield. Some bacteria need air to work, others work without air. The bacteria that work with air soon run out of air in the tank and stop working. They can be reactivated by putting air into the septic tank just like air is put in the water in a fish tank. The process or the system to put air into a septic system makes the system an aerobic or an aerated system.

Why would 3 toilets on a septic system in a new home consistently block whenever solid waste is flushed?

it is more than likely that your absorption trences are not working so the effluent is not draining from the outlet of your septic tank some trenches only last 2 to 3 years if the soil is clay. or it may be the drain has been laid to flat from the toilets to the septic tank. flush the toilets and look down the inspection openings on the lid of the tank if it flows into the tank it is not your drain but the trenches on the outlet of the septic tankANS 2 - It's possible you have a blockage between house and first septic pit. Pull the cover and watch the inlet tube as someone flushes. If water doesn't gush right out, you definitely have a blockage between there and house. ( I'm assuming you take care of your septic system, and it it does not need to be pumped - or else a full tank will be the problem. )

What happens when a septic system fails How can I tell?

The drainfield is usually not functioning adequately when a septic system malfunctions. When a septic tank overflows, the effluent might overflow into the drainfield and block the pipes. This produces backups in the house's sinks and toilets. Slow draining toilets and drains, sewage odor, moist area on or near the drainfield, or tainted well water are some of the other indicators.

What happens when you put too much disinfected into a septic tank?

Too much disinfectant, fungicide, chlorine, antimicrobial detergent, etc. will kill the bacteria that is essential to break down the solids of effluent (the yuck stuff), hindering the septic system's performance. A poorly performing septic system (assuming no damage or defective design) can be "repaired" by simply limiting the disposal of above mentioned products into the septic system, and periodic induction of new bacteria into the system. There are many products on the market today that can rejuvenate the bacteria colony in a septic system. Visit your local home improvement center or market to obtain.

What is in rid x septic treatment?

I service many septic systems and I use a product called RC 4. Similar to Rid X, this contains bacteria and enzymes specifically selected to digest septic system waste. The granular version is best as it does not just flow through the tank. Basically what you should be doing is encouraging microbial growth, which in turn digests all human effluent. Many products will do this if they remain in the tank for a while.
