it depends on the circumstances, if there is a server in the room and a switch/router then they will be using the mesh star but if not and all the computers have 2 Ethernet ports on the back of them then they are more than likely to be using the Ring topology.
But these days they are normally connected to switch ----> Then a Router -----> then a Server which is connected to the internet and has a very strong and secure firewall.
