Accidentally put 87 octane fuel into my 2000 New Beetle that takes 93 octane now the check engine light is on and nothing else is wrong so do I need to get it checked or just wait and refill with 93?

Is the gas cap tight? if it is loose your check engine light will come on,but the light should go off before you have to refill, provided the gas cap is tight.
