the missionaries came from 1780-90, but fur trappers got there ever since Americans knew of it's extistense, so in the early 1600's, there were people that came from new england to make a fortune off the giant beaver, deer, fox, coyote, brown bear, black bear, and especially grizzly bears. The first people with farming intentions were there in the early 1800's.

The primary cause of death among tobacco-growing settlers was nicotine poisoning. These settlers ingested too much nicotine, and they got sick and died.
