She uses the line, Pelted shapeless in rush hour crush. I guess she's saying that a city in Canada is or more than one city or CANADA itself, is building too much infrastructure and corrupting the once plain land it used to be. Now because of all this buildings and people and jobs in downtown theres so much traffic and not to mention accidents deaths, etc...

She's basically trying to let people know that Canada wasn't used to be like it is now, and that now Canada is taking land away from people, theres less land for people than there is now than there used to be. TSK TSK I have the same assignment due on monday

This poem deals with abuse, both child and wife abuse. The speaker is an observer on a subway who notices a woman and her children with various injuries (scabbed face indicating wound healing over), arm in a cast, blood, etc. The woman is also wearing sunglasses which could hide a black eye. The little girl is detached from her mother because she knows that her mother will not protect her from her abuser. The mother tries to cover up the source of her children's abuse., "it was an accident..." The raised arm is ironic because it can be a sign of a blessing, or in this case, a physical blow.
