Well, I can tell you this much, I have been living in the Commonwealth for my entire life and I will tell you its very risky. I’m not sure off the top of my head but I read the Virginia laws regarding weapons, quite some years ago. Expandable Batons, Brass Knuckles, Butterfly Knives, Throwing Cards/Knives are all basically under the deadly weapons list. I had a friend in 2006 who was caught with brass knuckles, he didn’t receive a” possession of a deadly weapons charge”, but instead “Possession of brass knuckles?” In Virginia it seems they just make the up laws year after year. Id say sure if It makes you feel safer, carry it. Just don’t get caught.

You can own them, and carrying them openly. Concealed is a gray area, and typically is a matter of circumstances. If arrested while committing another crime and you have a baton, you're getting charged with a concealed weapon. But just carrying by itself while being lawful will usually be let go.
