Yes it is the dog has fur which is what triggers Asthma The dog I have is a shih tzu, which has hair instead of fur. The only disadvantage with a dog with hair is hair grows fast and the dog will need to have his/her hair trimmed more often like ours.
Yorkies are very good dogs to have if you have Allergies or asthma. I have one and my asthma is pretty bad. See Yorkies have hair , not fur like a lot of dogs so they do not shed or have a lot of dander that dogs with fur do. There are a lot of places on line that will tell you what dog to get if you have allergies. Yorkies and Maltese, and Bichons are three I know of. But pretty much any dog that has hair and not fur are ok. And surprisingly a lot of the dogs that you should not get have very little fur, like Chihuahuas.
i would suggest a shih tzu as a dog for a child because they don't shed but unless your child is allergic to dogs it shouldn't effect Yorkshire terriers are bad around children, period. They are overly needy, aggressive, and nearly impossible to completely housetrain. Get a golden retriever or another actual dog. Yorkies have not earned that title. As someone with asthma, and children with asthma, I do NOT suggest a shihtzu; my grandmother has one, and it actually does bother my asthma and allergies. Our YORKIE is great with our kids and all of our friend's kids...he LOVES to play (nicely) with them and has never gotten aggressive with them. His hair doesn't bother any of our allergies or asthma...he's PERFECT!!
No day is bad for a yorkie to have pups on.
your bobos
yes, bad asthma
Our Grandson has asthma and he has had no bad effects from our Yorkie, who lived to the age of nearly 17 years, even though he sometimes laid in his bed with him. We now have a new Yorkie puppy who is 16 weeks old and he handles him and plays with him and has no reaction from this. The puppy we have also has a marvellous temperament and our 4 year old Granddaughter treats him like a playmate and he responds very well! Just be careful where you obtain your puppy from and see the parents as well and if it is bred indoors with children that is usually a good sign that they will accept plenty of contact with them.
Not just Yorkies, all dogs shed, so if your child is allergic to dogs then keep him away from ALL dogs. Not just Yorkies, even if they tend to shed a lot too. It all depends on the individual. My children and I have asthma and our Yorkie doesn't bother us at all. I do bathe him every couple days as well as take him to the groomer every other month, just to keep all of our allergies in check (even his!)
Yes, they carry allergens which could trigger asthma.
Not necessarily. But it could affect some people with asthma.
The following breeds tend to be easier on people with allergies, according to the American Kennel Club: * Bedlington Terrier * Bichon Frise * Chinese Crested * Irish Water Spaniel * Kerry Blue Terrier * Maltese * Poodle (any size) * Portuguese Water Dog * Schnauzer (any size) * Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier * Xoloitzcuintli for more information: http://dogtime.com/allergies-people.html
