Do you walk a teacup yorkie?

A Yorkshire Terrier is a dog and it would need exercise just like every other dog does. You should walk him or her daily using a 6 foot lead and a collar. Daily walks are best, around 20 minutes a day and work up to 45 minutes a day.

Find a local obedience class in your area. Check with your local Dog Club, Animal Shelter or Veterinarian to find the nearest obedience class. It will teach your dog manners and how to properly walk on a leash & collar. You both get the added pleasure of learning to work together. I recommend using a nylon slip collar, like a choke chain but it is made of nylon. Measure you dog's neck and add 2 inches to the length to find the correct size for the nylon choker. It will not hurt the dog if used properly. You would only have this on your dog during walks, obedience classes, etc. Never leave it on as they could possibly hang themselves by accident.

Leave a regular collar on for everyday use. Just remember all dogs, no matter what their size is, need exercise and to learn the proper way of walking with you, plus manners. People seem to think sometimes, just because the dog is small, that it should be babied and pampered, but that is not healthy mentally or physcially for your small dog.

How do you hand strip border terrier?

When coat is ready to strip, it will feel harsh and dry to touch. At this point, the top-coat will come away easily for hand stripping. Pinch a SMALL piece of hair at a time and pluck gently but firmly in the direction of coat growth. Start at the shoulders / back of neck and work down smoothly in small sections. Be careful when doing undercarriage, thighs etc - these areas tend to be more sensitive.

Can Yorkshire Terrier live outside?

Not really. Yorkshire Teriers are dogs who make their homes indoors. If your Yorkshire Terrier loves to be outdoors then consider buying a doggy door. Your Yorkshire Terrrier can then go outdoors and come back in whenever he likes but lock the door at night.

What is pyoderma in Yorkies?

Pyoderma is a bacterial infection of the skin. Pyoderma can be divided into surface pyodermas (infection on the skin surface), superficial pyoderma (infection within the skin) or deep pyoderma (infection under the skin).

The health impact from pyoderma can range from mild with superficial pyoderma to severe with deep pyoderma. Superficial and surface pyodermas can cause intense itching leading to discomfort. The underlying cause of the pyoderma may also have a negative health impact on the dog, depending on the disease.

What to Watch For

Any of these should trigger a visit to your veterinarian:

-Red, itchy and painful skin lesions

-Pustules (pimples)

-Draining sores

Is it normal to still be passing blood clots and stuff a month after giving birth?

No it is not normal to still be bleeding and having clots a month after childbirth. Your loss by now should be just a creamy dicharge if anything at all. Please go and see your doctor as you may have a piece of placenta left behind.

Should I be worried that my yorkie ate then vomited a condom?

I think it depends on if the condom came up intact and if you are sure it was only one condom. Also condoms don't always just contain what you might expect one to contain, if you know what I mean. Some people carry illegal drugs in them. If your dog picked one up in the street, I think I would be a little worried. Keep an eye on it and see if the dog is displaying any symptoms. If you are not entirely sure then you should consult a vet immediately. If that condom did not come out intact then I would talk to your vet and get the dog looked at. You need to make sure the rubber is not getting itself caught inside the gut or somewhere similar. My advice is get the dog seen to by a vet if you cannot be completely sure it was only one empty condom and it came back intact.

What do Yorkie babies look like when their parents are related?

They do look like Yorkshires but they have a higher change of having some form of deformity because there genes are too close. Some of the deformities are not seen by the physical form some come internally and you will not find out until a problem shows up with the pets health. regular vet visits for these puppies are recommended.

They look like yorkies. You cant tell if there going to be tan/black/grey/whatever other colors that are involved. If your worried that they come from the same family and will have retardation or some other issue. That can happen anyway with two dogs not related. Dogs that are related have been having puppies for a long time. You cant tell until they come out.

They usually look much like their parents but, you never know. You will just have to wait for it to come out.

They should look like their parents

At what age do puppies stop growing?

Depends a lot on breed....most pups get their growth spurt by 9 months, then finish at 18 months. Large breeds continue growing until about 2 years. Mastiff breeds, Old English Mastiff, Bull Mastiff, Tibetan, Nebolish, Saint Bernard, Fila, etc... grow until they are 3 years old. Nutrition is important during their growth period.

How many treats do you give a yorkie?

Giving a treat is not breed specific. I give my dogs a treat whenever they do what I ask them to do. It's basically telling them that what they did is good and right so they would learn.

How many puppies can a Yorkshire terrier have?

All dog breeds can have litters from 1 to 8 puppies. The smaller breeds can have less than the larger breeds who can sometimes have litters of 12 puppies.

a Yorkie can have up to 2 puppies at a time, because they are so small there stomach doesn't hold as many puppies as bigger dogs can.

i have seen yorkies that had 4 puppies.

My Yorkshire terrier had 7 puppies which astounded me as she was only small. But all the puppies were very healthy & happy I am pleased to say.

How do you train your puppy to use wee wee pads?

  • First of all keep in mind that wee wee pads may be confusing to your puppy if you want him to go potty outside. Puppies are not always going to know the difference between appropriate papers on the floor and the newspaper that you have not finished reading. Potty training requires consistency. After napping eating or drinking the pup should be taken to the appropriate place. There should be no playtime at that place until they have gone to the bathroom. As soon as they urinnate or defecate they should be praised excessively and given a small treat. If they havent gone in a few minutes they should be brought in and placed in their crate if they cannot be watched constently. If they have made a mistake in they house you can wipe it up with a paper towel and plave the paper towel or stool in the place where you want them to go for your next attempt. Puppies should go out often and praised each time they go potty in the correct area. It is not appropriate to punish your puppy for making a mistake in the house. If cought in the act you may distract them with a sharp noise and take them right outside. If you find a mess in the hous that you did not observe, please, keep in mind that the pup has no recollection of doing that. Ther are many good websites. I would direct anyone to PetPartner.com for all kinds of GOOD advice.
  • When you see your pup beginning to do the circle peepee dance, gently say no no no. Go to the pup and pick him up and place him on the pad and give him a little pat on the head. You already know he has to go, so if he tries to leave the pad, pick him up and put him back. Keep doing this until he gets the hint and goes. If you get tired after the 8th time, let him walk away. Now if he does the peepee dance again, do your part again. Consistency is the key, not to mention patience on your part. Remember never yell.....I can't stress this enough. Yelling alone can scare the pup and make them pee.

Do Yorkies shed?

no They shed a little, but never a lot.

Yorkies do not have an undercoat, so they will lose hair about as much as a human. Shedding can be reduced by grooming/brushing the yorkie regularly.i dont really like them.
Yes, but not as much as a lot of other breeds. The hairs go through a growing phase, then a rest, then eventually fall out, just like our hairs do. But not a lot fall out at the same time.

What types of homemade food can be given to a Yorkshire terrier puppy?

Skin chicken pieces (I use breasts) then steam until tender. Cool, then be sure you get ALL bones out and dice the chicken up into small pieces. Organic chicken broth. Rice or barley. Be sure the rice or barley is rinsed off well and cook as directed. Peas and either shredded carrots, diced carrots into small pieces or both. Talk to your vet and ask them what vitamins your puppy needs and then when serving up this homemade stew (in very small amounts because your puppies stomach isn't that big) and mix in any oils or vitamins your vet suggested into the mixture. ALL adult dogs should be fed in the morning and at dinnertime. I feed my pets before I eat breakfast or dinner. By feeding your dog twice a day this stops high acidity in the dogs stomach.
