Are Z71 silverado pickups always 4wd?
yes, Z71 is the designation for the "offroad package", inc. shocks and skid plates, etc. That is true, But make sure that someone did not just go down to a swap meet and buy Z71 stickers and just stick it on the rear quarter panels. I have seen many 2 wheel drive Silverados with the Z71 emblems on them because a lot of people think it makes there truck look " COOL ". The best to tell if it is a 2wd or 4wd is to look at the 5th letter of the VIN C=2wd K=4wd
Z71 is just a trim package, and some aftermarket accessories. Nothing about the drivetrain changes. The Z71 package was introduced for the fourth generation Chevrolet C/K pickups (Cheyenne, Silverado, Sierra, W/T, etc.). If it was a four speed from a 93 and up model, it's a 4L60-E, which is what your 97 Tahoe would have, and it would be compatible.
Z71 is the Chevy "off road" package. The standard 4x4 doesnt come with as many options. agree with the first answer as Z71 is the GM code for "off road package." it basically includes bilstein shocks and skid plates, along with some trim features. The 4x4 Chevy is just what it says, only a 4WD. The Z71 on the other hand is a 4WD but it also comes factory with skid plates, improved bilstein shocks…
