I like the ride that the airbags gives you, the fronts have a strut built into the air bag, the back is just an air bag with separate shocks that the bushings crack an break and you will hear a clunking noise when going over a bump. Unfortunately the air bags start to leak anywhere from 60, 000 miles to 100,000 miles so then they either have to be changed or they have conversion spring kits that you can replace the air bag system with.
You have to replace with springs and shocks
Go to Strutmasters.com. They offer a conversion kit and it comes with instructions on how to convert from Airbags to springs.
None but some people use the T-Bird springs and shocks.
A 1988 Lincoln Towncar has shocks in the front.
Air shocks allow the vehicle to ride smoother than regular shocks. Also, it helps the car carry greater weight over longer distances than regular shocks.
You could do that. The air shocks would have to be manually inflated. You may run into a competition between the manually leveling system and the automatic levilng system.
Yes you can.
you do mean shocks and not airbags right? well, you change shocks on the rear just like any other car with them but on a Lincoln the best way is to have the car resting all the way down,"with the airbag switch off". place a jack directly on the rearend and raise the vehical a little to release tension off the bolts. it's easier to put them on this way cause when you buy new shocks they are already compressed and its hard to pull or extend a compressed shock.

Below is a link to the instructions for that installation.
