Following this definition, some chemists considered formaldehyde (CH2O) to be the simplest carbohydrate while others claimed that title for glycolaldehyde.

∙ 14y agoFructose is a monosaccharide. You can also call it a "simple sugar", but generally the name for it is monosaccharide in the Biological world. The only disaccharide that involves the monomer fructose is sucrose, which is a fructose and a glucose bonded by a glycosidic linkage.
