You can't unless they are melted. If you need to melt chocolate chips, you need to use cocoa powder, butter and sugar.
Every ounce of chocolate can be replaced by 3 TBLS of Cocoa Powder (unsweetened) and 1 TBL of Butter and 3 TBLS of Sugar
You can substitute Cocoa for chocolate squares or chocolate chips:
3 tablespoons cocoa plus 1 Tablespoon butter or shortening for 1oz(28 grams) chocolate, unsweetened. Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips have some sugar added.
Substituting semi-sweet chips for cocoa powder would be more tricky, because you would be adding fat (usually milk fat) and sugar that is not in cocoa powder. Unless you are willing to calculate those factors and adjust the recipe accordingly, it would be better to use a recipe written for Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips instead of trying to substitute the chips for cocoa powder.
Chocolate chips are not a good substitute for cocoa because chocolate chips contain cocoa butter and other ingredients which cocoa does not have.
yes..but u want to use less cocoa then the recipe asks for glad i could help

No.
Cocoa, sugar and, if you put them in, chocolate chips too
Yes you can.
Cocoa powder helps to make the brownies a deeper and better chocolate flavor. It also adds a nice rich brown color to them.
Cocoa (chocolate) powder is not a substitute for chocolate chips.

Blondies are very similar to traditional brownies with only a few minor differences. Whereas traditional brownies are cocoa-based, blondies are made using brown sugar. In blondies, no chocolate is typically used. Variations, however, have been made with chocolate chips, coconut, and walnuts.
You can use melted chocolate instead, there are many website which contain recipes for chocolate treats using melted chocolate instead of cocoa powder. It also tastes nicer too! :) hope it helps x
No. It contains flour- great for brownies, yuck for drinking.
Brownies are denser. The proportions of sugar / fat / flour are different in brownies and chocolate cakes. Brownies have relatively little flour and more cocoa (or chocolate) than chocolate cakes have. That is why one eats a much smaller piece of brownies than one eats of chocolate cake.
no Well, it is made from a cocoa bean which would be a plant.
Nope! You need the real solid chocolate, or else it will just be nothingness, I guess. Try chocolate bars, or even make hot cocoa and freeze it! VOILA! Anything but plain cocoa will work!
Yes. Most packages of cocoa will list the correct amounts of cocoa powder and butter to use for a specific amount of unsweetened chocolate. For most brands of cocoa, three tablespoons cocoa powder plus one tablespoon butter = one ounce unsweetened chocolate.
