I wrote to P2P with this exact question and received the following answer on Nov. 17, 2009 from their Delegate Relations Coordinator:
People to People International, a private sector, nonprofit 501)3 organization originally founded by President Eisenhower.
As the travel-coordinating arm of People to People, Ambassador Programs, Inc., is a for-profit organization which provides organizational and logistical support for People to People's non-profit mission.
Program tuition or gift donations earmarked and applied toward a student's tuition are NOT tax deductible. IRS regulations state that if the beneficiary of a donation is an individual, the contribution is a non-tax deductible gift.
Please keep in mind that we are not tax advisors. You may wish to consult a tax advisor in your area for verification.
I would like to add, as a People to People Ambassador Programs, Delegate Relations Coordinator and fundraising blog writer - That it is still possible to ask for contributions and do fundraising.
No, this is a company that profits from your money, not a charity.
People to People Student Ambassador Program's motto is 'Promoting peace through understanding'.
People to People Ambassador Program's all inclusive program tuition cost will depend on the program selected by the student and their family. Each program we offer is a very unique, educational and cultural experience. Therefore, the tuition for each program varies depending on the program's location, length, and itinerary.
Anyone that can afford it can go.
The ambassador program allows you to put up a link to roblox people can follow and sign up to the game. You also get Tickets for each click to you link...
Looking for one too! Going to Australia.
Yes, People to People Student Ambassadors is a legitimate program. I have been on their trips and they are completely legitimate and very well organized.
Delegates are responsible for their own tuition, so you would have to pay the tuition after receiving the invitation to apply for the People to People Ambassador Program.
Simply contact the charity in question and ask for a statement on their letterhead. It is more than likely a legitimate charity. It seems this is a legitimate organization. According to their website they are a tax exempt organization. By law donations to them are tax deductible charitable donations. They also have a breakdown of how donations are spent. The overwhelming majority go to the people in need. This is also something to consider when you are choosing what organization to donate to. Kudos to you for finding ways to help others!
This is a terrific question that I get quite a bit as a Delegate Relations Coordinator and Fundraising Blogger for People to People Ambassador Programs. I actually wrote a post about this exact topic on the People to People Ambassador Pay your Way Fundraising Blog. I encourage you to read the post and it should answer your question. If you find that you need additional help I can be contacted at blogideas@peopletopeople.com. http://payyourway.blogspot.com/2010/09/why-do-sponsors-ask-for-tax-idwhen-i.html
There is a selective interview process with the assigned teacher leaders before a student can be accepted to travel with People to People Student Ambassador itineraries.
