∙ 12y agoThe United States of America (America is actually two continents) has 50 states in its union. Some people say there should be 52, or even 52; many people claim Washington D.C. should be a state, and many want Puerto Rico to be one as well. The problem is that if D.C. becomes a state and thus gets full state representation, it will become too powerful, because it is also the capital. Puerto Rico may eventually become one, but their people haven't come to a complete consensus on it, and they would need to go through the miles of red tape of the U.S. government.
