See: How Safe are Vent Less Heaters
Water heaters in a mobile home are direct vent. This means combustion air is drawn from outside the home and exhaust gases are vented out the B-vent pipe. In a standard home water heater, it's know as a natural vent. This means room air is used for combustion and exhaust is vented out the B-vent pipe.Ans 2 - That's quite correct in the case of GAS water heaters. However, most of the Mobile homes that I've seen (into hundreds) appear to have electric heaters that are exactly the same as those in a regular house.
All heaters work pretty much the same. Air intake is either from inside ( recirculated ) or from outside ( vent ) Most home heaters do not have a vent option, so they are pretty much taking in recirculated air through a filter.
Local retailers' sites such as Home Depot and Lowe's offer the same products as they do in their stores. Online only retailers such as Amazon and eBay also offer vent-free propane heaters for sale.
Yes, there are.
One could purchase a vent free gas heater from most fireplace distributors and retailers. One could also find them at home improvement stores such as Home Depot or Lowe's.
100% in my experience of using them for 16 years. I have installed dozens in my rental units and have used them in a space as small as a cargo van with absolutely no negative experiences. These heaters are 99.9 efficient, which is why they don't need a vent. But they do use oxygen from the room so each one is equipped with an over-sized pilot light which is fed by a controlled orifice. If the oxygen level in the room drops significantly the heater automatically (and purely mechanically - no electricity is required for the operation of these units) shuts the pilot light off, which shuts the heater down. Not in an enclosed room. Any fire makes toxic fumes these MUST be taken away from people.
Unbelievably efficient. I have been using them since 1995. I have purchased more than 20. They are 99.9 percent efficient, which is why they don't need a vent. A 15,000 BTU Unit (that has 3 plates) uses less than a dollar an hour worth of propane and probably something on the the order of 70 cents worth of natural gas per hour. You do have to select which gas source you intend to use before purchase. But you don't normally run the heater at full output. Once a room is heated you set the heater on low and then it uses just pennies per hour worth of fuel. I have owned and installed about 15 in the mobile homes and site built homes that I previously rented to tenants and I've purchased a number of portable units for camping. To properly install a bathroom vent in your home, you will need to choose a suitable location on the ceiling, cut a hole for the vent fan, install the vent fan, connect the ductwork to the fan, and ensure proper ventilation to the outside. It is important to follow the manufacturer's instructions and local building codes for a safe and effective installation.
