A spiral CT is a new technology, it refers to the way the xrays are emitted. The tube that produces the xrays is paralell with a receiver on the opposite side of the opening in the CT machine. To take the image, the tube and receiver are circling as it is doing this the bed is moving into the opening. This combination creates a spiral movement around your body.
